![]() ![]() Second if it gets low it will gel up and compleatly stop up your system. ![]() I see about one GM a week in for a pump that the seal is coroded away. DONT USE DEX COOLĭex cool is one of the biggest resons that waterpumps fail because it will eat the seal in the pump if it gets any little bit of air in it. I mean, maintainence is just "quality time" with your Miata, right? Basically going orange or red just adds tons of confusion, with very little benefit. Toyota also has a red coolant that I've seen. It says "hey, your GM is finally leaking."įord and Chrysler have recently come out with orange extended-lifes that look like but ARE NOT! Dex-Cool. A small leak gives you this muddy crud in the radiator neck. As early as 30k miles.ĭex-Cool is also sensitive to the least bit of contamination. Whenever I see a truck with a Vortec, or a fwd car with a 3.1 V6 come in, I can bet it's leaking. Not to mention the fact that Dex equipped GM's seem to be quite a bit MORE likely to come in leaking coolant, usually from the INTAKE! Also, there have been documented problems with people using Dex in their modular Fords. The corrosion additives in Dex-Cool take much longer to bond to metal surfaces, where good ol' green is nearly instant! I can't quote exact specs, but that info came from an industry mag at work. I also wouldn't use Dex-Cool, even if I did own a GM car. What if you need some in a hurry, say on a Sunday, when the Honda dealer is closed? I wouldn't use Honda coolant for one reason: availability. Alright, ask yourself: how much trouble is it REALLY to flush/change antifreeze once in a while? Let's remember, the OEMs that came up with extended flush coolants are the ones advocating "lifetime service" transmission fluids, and don't even get me started on what it takes to get spark plugs out at 100k miles!!! ![]()
